Susie Maroney
exclusive to SYDNEY

Susie Maroney

Undoubtedly one of Australia's most inspiring athletes, champion swimmer Susie Maroney will tell you that marathon swimming is not a sport for the faint hearted. Imagine swimming constantly for over 38 hours withstanding extreme conditions such as heavy seas, darkness, a mouth full of salt water, sea sickness, a swollen tongue, relentlessly bitten by jellyfish and pounded by enormous waves against your ribs and wrists. All the time hallucinating about monkeys swimming around in your shark cage. This is what Susie Maroney indured in June 1999 when she competed the world's longest open water swim from Mexico to Cuba swimming almost 200 kilometres over 38 hours. Imagine swimming up Mount Everest....Susie has done it!

Susie has a long list of world swimming achievements including world records and endurance feats. Her successes include being inducted into the international hall of swimming fame, securing a Guinness Book of World Records listing for the longest distance swim, swum in 24 hours (93.6 kilometres) and the fastest swim in the Manhattan Island marathon race. Susie is also the fastest woman to complete a double crossing of the English Channel and also holds the record for the single fastest crossing of the English Channel, all this done before she was 24. In and out of the water Susie Maroney is an inspiration and we are delighted to welcome her to the 2012 Day of Inspiration.

Australian Olympic rower and team member of the iconic Awesome Foursome 1996 Atlanta Olympics Gold medal winning team, Drew Ginn, has his sights firmly set on London 2012 and a possible fourth Olympic gold medal.

Day of Inspiration is delighted to welcome Drew as special guest in Sydney. He will reveal his perspectives on goal setting, leadership, teamwork, overcoming near career ending adversity, and motivation at the elite level of sport competition and performance.

Peter Baines

Peter Baines will make you laugh, he'll make you cry, but above all, he'll make you think. Peter has presented to tens of thousands of people since becoming a professional speaker in 2005 and has quickly become one of the most motivational and inspirational speakers you're likely to hear. He is one of Australia's leadership experts having road tested leadership the hard way. Peter spent 22 years with the NSW Police Service leading teams in response to acts of terrorism and natural disasters on a scale not previously seen. He was part of the leadership team that responded to the Bali bombings and was called upon in 2004 to lead the international teams in response to the 2004 Tsunami in South East Asia.

Peter was deeply touched by the number of children left orphaned by the Tsunami and was inspired to set up an organisation that makes a significant difference in the lives of these children. In late 2005 he started the Hands Across the Water charity, formed to raise funds and awareness for the children of Thailand who were left orphaned by the Tsunami. Peter's client base represents a virtual "who's who" of international brands and we are delighted to have him speak at the inaugural 2012 Day of Inspiration in Brisbane.

Heather Swan

Heather Swan is a dual world record holding wingsuit pilot, a mountaineer, an award winning writer, an adventure photographer, wife & mother, and popular professional speaker.

In her amazing speech, Heather will share the incredible story of how, as an ordinary 40 something year old mum with no background in adventure (or even fitness), she became a dual World Record Holding extreme sports woman.

Heather was a highly successful corporate executive who held senior management positions in Australian and multi national corporations. Until 1995 she had never planned to climb anything other than the career ladder. Then she went to a corporate breakfast and was mesmerised by the speaker, Dr. Glenn Singleman. He was a world record holding mountaineer and BASE jumper who spoke about mental mastery to overcome fear. After his presentation Heather introduced herself and three years later they married. Not content to stay at home while Glenn went adventuring, Heather challenged him to teach her to skydive, climb and BASE jump so they could set a new world record together. She had no idea what she was in for - a six-year-long roller coaster ride of wins, devastating losses, near death experiences and ultimately the spectacular achievement of her goal to make the World's Highest BASE jump in a wingsuit.

Heather is one of only two female Wingsuit Instructors in Australia. Her story had been profiled twice on 'Australian Story' and she and husband Glenn have also been featured in two 60 Minutes segments.
